We at Carter Carpet & Vinyl thank you for your recent purchase. As always, our quality and design standards have been created to satisfy our customers at the time of purchase and for many years thereafter. Naturally, the life of any product will depend on the use and kind of care you give it.

The purpose of this limited warranty and care guide is to help you understand what service you may expect from your recent furniture or carpet purchase and what will be done should defects be experienced.

Floor Covering

All rugs and carpets sold and installed by Carter Carpet & Vinyl are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials and premature wear-out under conditions of normal usage for a period of 10 years from date of delivery. Remedy of any such defects will be made free of charge during the first year provided carpet is located within a radius of 75 miles of Temperance and is installed over new pad.

During the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth years repair or replacement will be made by granting a credit equal to the number of years left in the 10 year warranty period time 1/10 the original purchase price. Where the identical item is no longer available this credit may be used towards any similar item. Sprouting is not a defect and should be clipped off by the customer. Certain medications and household chemicals will discolor carpet and this would not be covered by warranty. Colorfastness is not covered by this warranty. Dye lot may vary from sample. Many plush carpets will show footprints and vacuum marks. This is called shading, a normal characteristic of cut pile carpet. Pile crushing is normal and should be expected

All vinyl and wood floors sold and installed by Carter are warranted for ten years against defects in workmanship and materials and are warranted against premature wear out of the "No Wax", vinyl, or urethane wear layer. Remedy of any such defects will be made free of charge during the first year. During the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eight, ninth, and tenth years repair or replacement will be made by granting a credit equal to the years left in the 10 year warranty period times 1/10 the original purchase price. Warranty specifically excludes commercial installations. Scuffs, stains, tears, dents, and discoloration from mold or mildew are not covered by this warranty.

General Terms

The duration of this warranty for carpeting begins at the date of delivery. To obtain service under this warranty contact our store at (734) 847.1198. This warranty applies only to original purchaser with proof of purchase, so keep your warranty, sales slips, in a safe place. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which vary form sate to state.

General Exclusions

This warranty does not apply to merchandise sold "as is" or to merchandise not listed above. Defects resulting from negligence, misuse, alteration, fire or accident are also not covered. This warranty is applicable to residential use only and specifically excludes commercial use. We will not repair damage to flooring picked up by the customer so inspect our flooring carefully when you pick it up.

Floor Covering Service Guarantee

Carter Carpet & Vinyl guarantees the workmanship and installation of wall-to-wall carpet or vinyl to be free of defects during the life of the carpet or vinyl when a normal installation procedure is made by Carter Carpet & Vinyl. Our service guarantee covers re-stretching, seam separation, carpet off tackless, and bubbling of carpet. Installation of vinyl floors is guaranteed against seam separation or bubbling. Seams will not be invisible in carpet or vinyl, but they will not be objectionable.

If defects brought are to our attention we will correct them at no cost to the customer during the life of the carpet subject to the following conditions and exceptions:

1. New pad must be installed at the time new carpet is installed. The workmanship guarantee is void if new carpet is installed over old pad.
2. Workmanship guarantee is applicable to the original purchaser only and at the original place of installation.
3. Workmanship guarantee is not applicable on our-of-doors installation.
4. Workmanship guarantee is void if carpet is improperly cleaned.
5. Workmanship guarantee does not apply to installation of used carpet.
6. Workmanship guarantee does not cover defects resulting from negligence, misuse, alteration, fire, rain, flood or accident.
7. For full spread vinyl products this installation guarantee applies only if Carter installs a new underlayment.
8. Workmanship guarantee is applicable to residential use only and specifically excludes commercial use.

Care of Carpet and Rugs

Your carpet and rugs can be kept clean and fresh-looking if you give them regular and proper attention. A good practice is to go over your carpet and rugs lightly, especially the traffic areas, each day with a vacuum cleaner and, at least one a week, give them a thorough cleaning, preferably with a vacuum equipped with a brush and beater bar.

A light cleaning consists of three strokes with the cleaner over a given area of carpet...forward, back and forward. A thorough cleaning may take up to seven strokes.

Move the vacuum cleaner slowly to allow the suction to remove embedded soil particles. You may vacuum carpet in any direction, but if the final strokes are all in one direction, the carpet will have a more uniform surface appearance. No matter which type of vacuum cleaner you have, be sure to keep it mechanically fit for the best cleaning results.Brushes should be kept clean and replaced when worn out.

Soft rubber soled shoes, such as tennis shoes, are extremely hard on carpet. They have a severe abrasive action causing "pilling" or "bearding" especially on nylon-however, they are equally destructive to wool and other fibers used in the manufacturing of carpet. Most new carpet, especially plush weaves, will shed lose pile yarns left during manufacturing. Some yarns tend to shed fivers for long periods of time. This is a normal characteristic.
